Medica generally employs three models of investment activity:
-
Investment in Existing Companies
Medica invests in existing companies with proven technologies, with most of the management in place.
This is a model which describes most of the investments. Medica will lead or co-invest in such
situations with other funds, offering post investment activity such as assistance in design and
execution of business, corporate and financial strategies as board members. Medica will assist
its portfolio companies by linking them with international strategic business partners, and will
support and generate exit strategies.
-
Company Founding
Medica is intimately linked to many university researchers and potential entrepreneurs in the
pharma/bio and device areas. In cases where an exciting breakthrough technology has been identified
and a low probability of company establishment by the inventors exists, Medica may initiate the
new corporate identity on its own, investing and managing companies for a limited amount of time,
until pre-defined R&D goals are met. At this stage professional management is recruited and the
first round of outside financing is raised.
-
International Matchmaking
Medica seeks to promote mergers between companies, as new investment opportunities, where it has
identified a synergy potential. Medica will act as the initiator and merger facilitator and as a
lead investor in the new company.
